The Suit

Today, I am standing in front of 100s of employees, delivering my First Speech around how well our company is doing, its future, and some motivational words. This is the day I was waiting and dreaming about for the last 10 years.

But let’s rewind, let’s go back to first year of my job, The Beginning.

I love coding, it is my passion, my hobby, and my work. 10 years back I started my journey as a Software developer in my company.

It was a day of yearly review meeting of the company, I was sitting with my colleagues among 100s of other employees. I am wearing my comfortable geeky T-Shirt, talking about upcoming startup ideas, and possibilities of time travel while waiting for the meeting to start.

“Attention Everyone” someone announced on mic.

Managers, Heads of departments, and other Big Shots jumped onto the stage and started delivering a presentation about the year passed and the upcoming year with lot of charts, graphs, and tabular data.

Instead of focussing on presentation, I was looking at their Suits, how impressive and cool they were looking. I pulled my T-Shirt down to hide its wrinkles and tucked it in🙂

At that moment, I was talking to myself that I too want to wear a suit to office. I started imagining, how my colleagues and friends will treat me, will try to come and meet me, or will try to impress me.

I decided to work hard and reach that position where I can wear a suit to the office. I worked day and night, weekends and weekdays. My work shifted from code to excel mostly. Took me 10 years, but I finally reached the position where if I wear a suit to office, I will not look funny and my friends will not make fun of me.

The day came when I will go to my office, wearing my suit and will deliver presentation for which I was working from last 1 week. I bought my first suit, shiny black though a little costly, with a matching tie and cough-lings.

And now, at this very right moment, I am standing in front of 100s of employees, wearing my “The Suit”. Mic is hardly 1 foot away and I just have one feeling in my whole body, that “I don’t feel comfortable in Suit”.
